October Fire Safety Update: Prepare for the Unexpected

AtoZ Fire • October 1, 2024

As we move deeper into hurricane season, Florida has already been hit hard, and more storms could be on the way. Now is the time to ensure your business is fully equipped to handle any emergencies that may arise. In the wake of severe weather, power outages, and storm damage, fire hazards can increase—so it’s essential to be prepared.

National Fire Prevention Week is Coming! 🔥

Next week is National Fire Prevention Week (October 7th-11th), a great reminder to prioritize safety in your business and at home. At A to Z Fire, we’re celebrating by offering up to 15% off all fire extinguisher sales throughout the month of October! Whether your fire extinguishers need servicing or you’re looking to stock up, now’s the perfect time to take advantage of this discount. Check out our discount on smoke alarms too!

This year’s FPW campaign, “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!”, highlights the critical importance of having functioning smoke alarms in your home or business. 🏠🔔 Smoke alarms can be lifesavers, but only if they’re installed, tested, and replaced properly.

Top Smoke Alarm Tips for National Fire Prevention Week:

  1. INSTALL Smoke Alarms in Every Bedroom, Outside Sleeping Areas, and on Every Level
This ensures that you and your loved ones are alerted to fire no matter where it may occur in the home.
  2. TEST Your Smoke Alarms Monthly
Press the test button to make sure they’re working. If the alarm doesn’t sound, replace the batteries immediately.
  3. REPLACE Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years. Even if they seem to work, older alarms might not be as reliable. If you can’t remember the last time you changed them, it’s probably time to swap them out!

Stop by Our Largo Office 🚒

We’re also inviting everyone to stop by our Largo office to check out our vintage fire truck and grab some fun fire safety memorabilia. We’ll have stickers, hats, coloring books, and toy fire extinguishers available—perfect for families and fire safety enthusiasts! While you’re here, snap a photo with our classic fire truck, and don’t hesitate to ask us any questions about how we can help keep your business fire-code compliant.

Even though we’ve had a few cooler nights this past weekend, don’t let your guard down—hurricane season is far from over. Last October, Florida was hit with not one, but two hurricanes, proving that storms can strike late in the year. Power outages, flooding, and fire risks don’t follow a schedule, which is why emergency lighting and fire preparedness should always be top of mind.

With hurricane season here, fire safety often gets overlooked — but it’s more important than ever. Storm damage, power surges, and flooding can all create unexpected fire hazards. Just in the last few weeks, our community has seen: A 3-alarm scrapyard blaze in Tampa that took firefighters all night to contain. A semi-truck fire on I-4 after a driver suffered a medical emergency. A mobile home fire in Tampa that tragically left one person dead. Multiple business fires in St. Pete Beach and Clearwater , leaving owners struggling to recover. These events are sobering reminders that fires can happen anytime, anywhere. The best defense is being prepared.
